In 2011 the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners had its main site redesigned. In 2012, "Responsive Web Design" was the inescapable buzzword and we were behind. I started to build out all new sites with RWD and in August 2014, we got the 'OK' from above and turn ACFE.com responsive.
The objective was to maintain the EXACT look and functionality in the desktop view, but to also improve the usability of the tablet and mobile views (while of course never losing functionality). I was made Lead Developer as the necessary development was a complete overhaul of the CSS (and accompanying JS) and of course the 60+ templates required for our CMS (in an asp.Net environment). This was a great study in DRY programming as there are numerous repeated elements in various sections. I also focussed on developing simple HTML snippets for our content owners to implement seemingly intricate elements as well as ensuring legacy code would still render properly.
I've never learned as much in one project as I did in the four months I researched, designed, programmed, scripted, tested, programmed, designed, programmed, scripted, tested, and tested some more to rebuild the entire site.
